Hurricane Zeta will hit the U.S. Gulf Coast Wednesday, and its remnants are expected to bring rain and wind to Delmarva starting Thursday.

Through Thursday, heavy rainfall is expected from portions of the central Gulf Coast, into the mid-Mississippi Valley, Ohio Valley, southern to central Appalachians and mid-Atlantic states, according to a Wednesday advisory from the National Hurricane Center.

The Maryland Emergency Management Agency tweeted Tuesday morning that the effects of Zeta could lead to flash, urban, small stream and river flooding. Damaging winds are also possible.

As it tracks across the Mid-Atlantic, the storm will have weakened to a remnant low pressure, according to a Facebook post from the National Weather Service's Wakefield office.

That will bring gusty winds to the region Thursday afternoon and evening. along with the heaviest rains north of Richmond, Virginia and across Maryland's Eastern Shore.

The National Weather Service is forecasting 1-1.5 inches of rain for Accomac and 2-3 inches for Salisbury. Wind gusts for the region are anticipated to be about 30 mph in Salisbury and 40 mph in Accomac.
