Delaware State Police have identified the 19-year-old killed in a single-vehicle crash east of Bridgeville Saturday morning as Leon Mann Jr.

Troopers were called to Coverdale Road, just north of Nat Turner Drive, at 1:04 a.m. after receiving reports of the wreck.

Police determined Mann, who was in a 2016 Ford Escape, was driving north on Coverdale Road "at an apparent high rate of speed" when he tried to navigate through a "moderate" curve in the road.

Because of his speed, Mann slid into the opposite lane, police said. He then overcorrected, causing the car to slide off the road and hit a utility pole before stopping in "thick foliage."

Mann wasn't wearing a seatbelt, police said, and was fatally injured.

Troopers closed Coverdale Road for about three hours to investigate and fix the utility pole.
